The seven restaurants in Argentina that have been awarded Michelin stars
In July of this year, it was announced that Argentina would become the first Spanish-speaking country in Latin America to be included in the Michelin Guide. Known for its rich culinary heritage and gaining recognition in the international gastronomic scene, its restaurants have been making waves and impressing diners with their exceptional culinary skills and innovative dishes. Some of these outstanding restaurants have even been awarded the prestigious Michelin stars. A total of 71 restaurants have been recommended by their inspectors, one has been awarded 2 Michelin stars and six have been awarded one, as well as seven establishments that have been distinguished as Bib Gourmand (restaurants that provide quality meals for more affordable prices) and other seven achieved a green Michelin star for its sustainable gastronomy.
Four of the Michelin Guide winners are located in the province of Mendoza. Firstly, Zonda Cocina de Paisajes, offering a contemporary twist on traditional Argentine cuisine. Secondly, Casa Vigil Mendoza, a charming restaurant located in the heart of the province serving as a testament to the rich culinary history and traditions of the region, offering an authentic dining experience that celebrates the flavors and techniques of Argentine. Thirdly, Brindillas with a menu that showcases from delicious grilled meats to filling stews and flavorful empanadas, making every dish a celebration of the many traditional meals from the country. And last but certainly not least, Azafran where it is clear that saffron plays a central role in the gastronomic experience of the restaurant as the spice gives the restaurant its name, which is prominently used in Argentinian cuisine. Their Aromatic saffron rice paired with tender meats, the saffron-infused paella, are a true testament to the flavorful and aromatic qualities of this precious spice.
The other Michelin-starred gems are found in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. We have Don Julio, a traditional Argentine steakhouse that has gained international recognition for its outstanding meat selection and expert grilling techniques cooking the steaks to perfection. The restaurant’s rustic and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the mouthwatering aroma, sets the stage for a truly unforgettable dining experience. Also, we have Trescha, a mesmerizing restaurant located in the heart of the vibrant city. Its name stems from the combination of two words, “trendy” and “fresca” (fresh), which perfectly encapsulates the ambiance and cuisine offering a diverse and innovative menu that showcases the best of Argentine cuisine with a modern twist.
Moreover, the outstanding place that has earned itself two Michelin stars is none other than Aramburu, where a carefully curated selection of dishes showcases the talents of Chef Gonzalo Aramburu. Each item on the menu is a visual work of art, meticulously plated to please the eye as well as the palate. The use of locally sourced ingredients and inventive flavor combinations reflects their dedication to quality and creativity. Their tasting menu changes regularly, allowing diners to embark on a gastronomic adventure with each visit. This element of surprise adds an exciting and dynamic dimension to the dining experience.
We can say with absolute certainty that excellence is found in the country’s vibrant food scene. With their unique blend of traditional flavors and innovative techniques, these restaurants showcase the best of Argentinian cuisine.
